Location of Grand Monastory, Pamporovo Ski Resort
Pamporovo is approximately 250 km south east of Sofia (3hrs drive by car). 85 km south of Plovdiv (approximately 1 hr 30 min by car). 15 km north of Smolyan (20 min by car), and 10 km south of Chepelare (15 min by car).Each one of the towns mentioned above have public transport to and from Pamporovo by way of bus.
Ski Run Information for Pamporovo Ski Resort
The ski runs of Pamporovo come in many levels of difficulty and therefore suit all levels of skiers, from beginner to advance skier. Most of the Ski runs start from the very top of the mountain known as the Snejanka peak or Snejanka tower. Then they wind down the Rhodopean mountains through the beautiful pine forest until you meet the second main area of Studenets. Here you can either continue to the very bottom or get on the large ski lift Students 6 to take you back to the top.Should you not wish to stay to the main ski runs and prefer to go off-piste, you will be able to join the cross-country ski runs at most points. The off piste ski runs make up a total length in excess of 35 km.
Ability Levels of Skiers
As already said there are many ski runs of different levels so when staying at the Grand Monastery in the Pamporovo Ski Resort you will find ski slopes for all skiing abilities.Beginner Skiers:
If you are skiing for the first time, or maybe this is only your 2nd or 3rd skiing holiday then you may want to book some lessons with one of the many ski schools in Pamporovo. There are many to choose from and most will have ski instructors that speak different languages. If you choose this route then you will be starting your lessons on the gentle nursery slopes. Normally after just a few lessons and once you have learnt the basics of balance and the technique of stopping then you can move onto slightly higher ski runs, provide you have the confidence to.Intermediate Skiers:
Intermediate skiers really have the choice and freedom of this Pamporovo ski resort. They are able to enjoy the stunning views and slopes of the easier ski runs for the beginners, through the intermediate slopes whilst always tackling a selection of the more advanced level ski runs.They will find enjoyment on the ski runs from top at the Snejanka peak, through the middle at Studenets right to the bottom at Malina village.
Advanced Skiers:
Advanced skiers will want to spend most of their time between Snejanka peak and Studenets 6. This area provides numerous ski runs of blue, red and black level, as well as some good off piste runs. This is also where you will find the infamous black run named “The Wall”. The Wall has its very own draglift that will take you right up the side of the slope, not for the faint hearted.Additionally though there are a number of ski runs worth going down over the other side of the Snejanka peak that will take you to the very bottom of the mountain past Malina village or right over the other side of the mountain. This area has a mixture of black and red ski runs. Once at the bottom of either side of the mountain you will find two ski lifts that take you back to the very top of Snejanka peak. One being the new 6-man bubble lift.
Mountain Rescue for the Ski Slopes
The mountain rescue services are on standby 24 hours a day, 7 day s a week. They are there to help and assist all manner of things that relate to keeping the ski slopes and the skiers using them in a safe and secure environment.
